Preparing Your Boiler For Winter

Leaking Boiler

As the winter draws nearer, It’s important that we all do a little more to ensure our boilers stay in top condition during the winter months.

Whilst most boilers are built to deal well with the cold weather, boiler problems can arise at any time of year – and are certainly are prone to issues during the winter months when they’re getting the most use.

Nobody wants to deal with a faulty boiler, especially when it’s already winter, the last thing you need is the boiler giving out in the middle of the night when you need it most. Thankfully there are a few things you can do to prepare your boiler for the winter months.

Here are some of the measures that you can take to keep your boiler ticking over during the winter:

Take A Good Look At Your Boiler

Take a good look at your boiler unit, look for any signs of damage along the casing, controls or pipes. Common signs of damage to your boiler can include things such as the casing being cracked, rusty pipes and rusty bolts. Remember to look around and under the boiler, too – are there any puddles or other signs of leakages underneath your boiler? If you can open up the casing of the boiler, does it look as though there are signs of condensation on the inside? If there appears to be any sort of damage to the boiler or the pipes, whether that’s water damage, rust or anything else, be sure to call ProTec Boilers Wakefield to asses the damage and service your boiler.

Checking The Pressure Levels

Check the water pressure gauge on the boiler, a boiler in good working order should read between 1 and 1.5 bar. If the water pressure gauge on your  reads above or below this this indicates there could be an issue.

If the gauge reads below 1 bar, this indicates low pressure, which will lead to increased energy bills and risk of problems with heating your home. If the number is above 1.5, this points to high pressure which could be solved by bleeding your radiators.

If after studying your boiler manufacturers instruction manual on how to resolve the above issues does not work, then it may be time to contact a professional to come and have a look at your boiler.

Have Your Boiler Serviced Today

All boilers need to be serviced at least once a year in order to ensure that they remain in good working order and are not faulty in any way which could potentially lead to dangerous issues in the way that they operate. If you’re yet to have your boiler serviced in 2021, now is the time to get it booked in and serviced before any issues arise.

Winter is the worst time to experience boiler problems, so ensuring your boiler is serviced and in good working order before the winter nights draw in is a good idea. Book your annual boiler service today with ProTecBoilers.
